Undoubtedly Cricket is more of a Batsmen’s Game these Days. But we all know that from its early days Cricket has been a contest between both Bat and Ball and ODI cricket is the most competitive form Cricket after Test cricket. There was a time when it was an it was an extreme errand for a batsman to score a century from 50 Overs but these days we are witnessing at least one century in every ODI matches.
Presently anything short of what 300 is not a decent score for a team. so people like to watch batsmen breaking the bowlers all the time. ICC’s new rules are also going in favor of batsmen. Some other reasons are the flat pitches especially in Asia.
Few days ago Rohit Sharma’s 264 run ODI innings created worldwide sensation after the fourth ODI match against Sri Lanka at Eden gardens. John Edrich is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in his generation. At a point he scored during 1965 season, Edrich scored 139, 121*, 205*, 55, 96, 188, 92, 105 and 310* in nine successive innings.
In the first ODI, England XI made 190 in 39.4 of their allotted 40 eight-ball overs, with John Edrich anchoring the innings with 82, including five of the seven fours. This was the highest individual score in that match and consequently an ODI history.
