West Indies opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has become the first player in Test cricket history to make seven runs from his first scoring shot. The feat was achieved in the fourth over of the West Indies' second innings on Day Three of the 3rd Test match at Cape Town.
Brathwaite ran three and gained four extra runs when wicketkeeper AB de Villiers shied at the stumps at the bowler`s end and the ball went to the boundary. According to South African statistician Andrew Samson, this was the first occasion in Test cricket history a batsman had gotten off the mark in this fashion.

Brathwaite fails to capitalize on curious luck
In the last 15 years, only 3 batsmen have managed to score 7 runs off one ball – Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds and Chris Rogers.
Brathwaite could only add 9 more runs to his total however, and was soon dismissed for 16 by Test debutant Simon Harmer. West Indies closed the third day on 88 for two. With two days to go in the match, West Indies trail by 4 runs in the match and 0-1 in the series.
West Indies legend Clive Lloyd had recently lavished praise on the Barbados man for the maturity the youngster has shown in the drawn 2nd Test against South Africa, where the 22-year-old made his 3rd Test century. With this curious event, Brathwaite has already earned a special footnote in cricketing annals.
