You don’t see many leg-spinners in men’s cricket these days. While slow bowlers have thrived exceptionally well, in stark contrast to what it was feared following the advent of Twenty20, it is mostly due to them becoming defensive and shifting their focus towards containing runs.

Off-spinners and left-arm spinners have adapted to the flatter decks and shorter boundaries better, to a level that a handful of them had to be banned for chucking recently to make sure they don’t flex the limits, but life for leg-spinners still depends on how well they outfox batsmen. And that’s primarily why if you ask a budding cricketer what he would want to become, ‘leg-spinner’ would be his last choice.

In women’s cricket, though, there is still room for flight, as batters aren’t not quite capable of wielding as much power as their male counterparts do to clear ropes. Wellington’s 14-year-old Amelia Kerr bowling leg-spin in the final of national T20 championship at Dunedin, New Zealand, against Otago Sparks is a classic example of it. 

She ended up with figures of 3-19 in four overs, bowling up front and at death with equal aplomb, as Wellington chased down the 98-run target with 28 balls to spare. Captain Sophie Devine said of Kerr: "She's unbelievable. She's bowled a couple of last overs during our season and doesn't get fazed. Thinking back to that age, I would've been crapping my pants, but she's had a fantastic first year. She's an exciting talent and, if we look after her and let her grow up, she could be a world beater."

West Indian fast bowler Kenneth Benjamin Plays a Prank..... Hilarious one

Test cricket is tedious and especially on fast bowlers, when they are bowling on placid batting wickets like in this case at Nottingham in 1995. However the bowler Kenneth Benjamin didn’t lose his humour.

How often does it happen that the bowler is running to bowl but the umpire forgets to give the ball to the bowler?

In the video, West Indies fast bowler Benjamin is seen steaming in to bowl to England’s Michael Watkinson, but as he reaches his delivery stride, he stops right next to the umpire with his arms in the air, showing that he doesn’t have a ball in his hands.

It is then the umpire Cyril Mitchley realised that he hadn’t handed over the ball to the bowler. He then stake out the ball from his pocket and hand it over to Benjamin. It was all smiles for the umpire Mitchley and Benjamin after the incident.

It was the fifth Test between England and West Indies, and though the game, played at a batting wicket ended in a draw. It turned out to be a happy outing for the West Indian bowler as he went on to claim his only ten-wicket haul in his international career.

Adam Milne takes a blinder - Brace yourself to amaze!!!

In a 2014 Georgie Pie Super Smash Twenty20 match between Central Stags and Northern Knights, New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne, representing the Stags, pulled this catch off to dismiss Anton Devcich off the bowling of left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel. 

At first glance, you would assume that the ball would have hit the ground and that there is no possible way that it could be declared out. It isn’t (although arguable), and that is what makes it special. Getting a hand to the ball is in itself an appreciable effort and then a full stretch to pull this off? Surely, the 22-year-old deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Patel should consider himself fortunate to have that wicket credited to him, thanks to the incredible piece of athleticism from the lanky fast bowler. 

Milne has represented his country in 7 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 6 Twenty20 Internationals (T20's) and is one of Kiwis’ most promising speedsters. Although injuries have curtailed his rise in the international arena, that he made his international debut way back in 2010 as a teen shows how highly the selectors rate him. The right arm quick is still very much in the mix, though.

Mahela Jayawardane's Stunning Catch at Slips Againaist New Zealand !!

Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene took a stunning catch at first slip to dismiss New Zealand’s No. 3 Kane Williamson off the bowling of off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake in yesterday’s One Day International (ODI) match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. 

Batting first, Sri Lanka could only manage 218 runs on the board, with no batsman except Jaywardene (104 off 107) getting past the 25-run mark. Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan picked up 4 wickets in his 10 overs, conceding only 36 runs. 

The home team found themselves in a spot of bother, 4 down for 77 in 11.1 overs, before all-rounder Corey Anderson’s 96-ball 81 helped them reach the target in 43 overs. Nuwan Kulasekara and Senanayake picked up 2 wickets each. 

Anderson was declared as the Man-of-the-Match. New Zealand lead the 7-match series series 1-0, and the second ODI will be played at Hamilton on January 15

Gayle Hits Fastest Fifty in just 17 Balls vs South Africa (1st T20)

Chris Gayle blazed a half-century off 17 balls to power West Indies to a four-wicket victory over South Africa in the first Twenty20 international at Newlands on Friday.

The left-hander bludgeoned the ball all round the ground to record the joint second fastest fifty in Twenty20 international history, finishing with 77 from 31 deliveries as the touring side reached their target of 166 with four balls to spare.

After South Africa had won the toss, they posted a competitive score of 165 for four but found Gayle in no mood to deal in singles.

Marlon Samuels compiled a fluent 41 from 32 balls before he became the third wicket of the innings for the impressive Tahir, who conceded only 28 runs in his four overs.

Gayle was MOM for his 17 ball 50.

South Africa’s total was built around an unbeaten 51 from 40 balls by left-hander Rilee Rossouw and captain Faf du Plessis struck a brisk 38 from 20 balls.

Gayle: ‘It was a wonderful atmosphere to play cricket, the crowd here (Cape Town) is really great. We decided to play our shots and it came off very well. I haven’t batted a lot, I had my first net session here in South Africa (just one net though). Hopefully, I will continue to play well. I just had a good time bantering with my fellow team-mate, Rabada (in Ramslam Challenge). It was nice to get going, right from the start. The ball was coming on nicely to the bat, but there were times when the ball stopped a bit after pitching. They bowled short at me, that made my task easier, I could free my arms and disturb their line and lengths.’
