AB de Villiers is a special man, superbly talented and knows all the aspects to make use of it. For a batsman he plays shots like no other has ever done, his intelligence, alertness and street smart attitude separate him from other batsmen. One imagines a good batsman to be classical, orthodox in his approach and application. He is so much unlike the traditional, text-book batsman that ever coaching manual designs for being a good player yet the effectiveness is far more superior. The difference is his imagination and the belief.
It is not everyday that we see world records getting created or broken in international cricket but this was certainly a day when major records in One Day International cricket were rewritten. By virtues of first the fastest ODI fifty and then also the fastest ODI century AB de Villiers also took the South Africa team total to 439 the second highest ever in ODI history.
de Villiers started off with intent of a smasher of an innings as he opened his account with a boundary but what happened there on would have looked unrealistic if predicted. AB was soon all over the place so were the West Indies bowlers and the ball, oh! She was suffering. Getting hit harder, further, pasted in all sections of the stadium.
The 44 ball 149 runs innings by AB de Villiers was studded with 16 massive sixes it saw him break the record for the fastest ODI fifty by completing his half-century in 16 balls and then race away to the fastest ODI century as well as he touched the triple figures in just 31 balls breaking New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson’s record.
